September on the road: Why showing up still matters

September is always a busy month in our industry, but this year seemed to gather pace with every passing week.

From the Cannes Yachting Festival, through the Southampton International Boat Show, and finishing at the Monaco Yacht Show, the MIMO Connect team spent a significant amount of time on the road. At the same time, the team back at headquarters kept projects moving, supported customers across the fleet, and started preparations for an equally busy autumn, with Palma and METSTRADE already on the horizon.

When people ask why companies still invest so much time and energy attending events, it's a fair question. After all, we live in an age where a meeting can be arranged in seconds, a presentation can be delivered virtually, and most conversations can happen without anyone leaving their desk.

Yet every year, these events remind us why face-to-face interaction remains so important.

The biggest learning from September wasn't tied to a new technology, a product launch, or a particular trend. It was a reminder that business is still fundamentally built on relationships.

Over the course of three major shows, we spoke with captains, engineers, managers, suppliers, owners' representatives, and industry partners and friends. Some conversations lasted an hour. Others lasted five minutes in a crowded aisle or while walking between meetings. Not every discussion led to immediate opportunities, and that is precisely the point.

The real value often comes from understanding what people are experiencing today, what challenges are emerging across fleets, and what priorities are changing. Those insights rarely appear in an email thread or a scheduled video call. They surface naturally when people have the space to talk openly.

One thing that stood out throughout the month was the continued focus on reliability and support. Technology in the superyacht sector continues to evolve rapidly, but the expectation remains the same: systems need to work when people need them. Whether discussing connectivity, cyber security, onboard communications, or operational efficiency, the conversation consistently came back to trust. Clients want partners who understand their world and are available when it matters.

Events provide an environment where those discussions can happen honestly and without an agenda.

There's also something valuable about seeing familiar faces year after year. The marine industry, particularly the superyacht sector, is built on long-term relationships. Many of the people we met in September are individuals we've worked alongside for years. Others were new introductions who may become clients, partners, or collaborators in the future.

In a digital environment, communication is often efficient, but efficiency isn't always the same as connection.

A Teams call can solve a problem. An email can deliver information. A meeting at an event can create understanding.

There is a difference.

Being physically present allows you to read the room, understand context, hear what people are not saying, and gain a clearer picture of what is happening across the industry. It creates opportunities for unexpected conversations and shared perspectives that simply don't happen when every interaction is scheduled and structured.

September also reinforced how resilient and forward-looking the industry continues to be. Despite changing technologies, economic uncertainty, and evolving operational requirements, there remains a genuine willingness among people to share experiences, learn from one another, and collaborate.

For MIMO Connect, that's perhaps the most important takeaway.

We attend events to support existing relationships, build new ones, learn from our peers, and stay connected to the reality of the people we serve. The technology we provide will continue to advance, but understanding the day-to-day challenges faced by crews, managers, and stakeholders can only come from ongoing conversations.

As September draws to a close, we're grateful to everyone who took the time to meet with us in Cannes, Southampton, and Monaco. The discussions were insightful, the feedback was valuable, and as always, we came away having learned as much as we shared.

Now attention turns to Palma in October and METSTRADE in November.

The calendar doesn't get any quieter, but that's part of what makes this industry such a rewarding one to be involved in.

We'll see many of you again soon. Until then, the conversations continue.
