A Conversation with Andrew Creed

In this team spotlight, we sit down with Andrew Creed, MIMO Connect’s Business Development Manager. He brings years of experience in marketing, sales and partnership development. In this quick Q&A, Andrew shares what drives him, what he values in a team and what excites him about the future at MIMO Connect.

Tell us a bit about yourself?

I am a husband and father of three fantastic children. Outside of family life some would say I have more than a healthy passion for sport, whether that be watching or participating. Over the years I have completed more triathlons than I can remember including a couple of Ironman distance events abroad.

How did you get into the maritime industry and was your last role similar to what you are doing now?

MIMO is my first role directly in the maritime industry although in my career I have worked closely supporting the RNLI and both London (when they had one) and Southampton Boat Show with marketing.

What qualities do you value in colleagues or team members?

Being part of a collaboratively centric team is without doubt one of the main reasons I joined MIMO. Team members all bring a set of complementary skills underpinned with a common set of ethics and values, all of which creates a potent basis for growth and success.

How do you foster teamwork and collaboration?

An interesting question and one that I am sure there are many documented and well written examples of? However, from experience I believe it all comes down to two very simple principals; Be true to yourself, and always communicate respectfully.

What are some memorable connections or partnerships you’ve formed since being part of MIMO connect?

There are a few but when I was the ‘newest’ member of the team I would say many are ‘work in progress’ especially with people outside of the MIMO community. A fond one of note was when I was invited to spend a day with UKSA on their 65ft racing yacht in Cowes Week a few years ago. The day was spent on the water with a variety of marine contacts from a director of the UKSA, owner of a fitness and wellbeing business and the sales and marketing team from a well know yacht clothing brand.

What do you love doing the most in your work?

That is very difficult question to answer as unlike many previous roles I have had there are more than one thing I love about working at MIMO, so I will give you the top three:

  • Being part of a team that all treat each other with respect and consideration.

  • Learning more about and being involved with products and services that will change the way the world connects.

  • Meeting new people and exploring commercial opportunities.

What’s one thing you’ve learned recently that has impacted your work?

Being patient is really important as not everyone necessarily is working to your ideal timescales.

What skills or expertise do you bring to the team?

I like to think that I have the ability to pick up and run with projects and opportunities that will bring commercial benefit to MIMO. A large part of my career has been spent working within marketing and sales so I can help grow the business.

What is one thing you’re passionate about that you don’t get to do enough?

Cycling.

What’s the furthest away from home you’ve ever been?

New Zealand you cant get much further than that!

What seemingly tiny thing are you especially grateful for?

My wedding ring, without it I would not have my wife, my children and my wonderful family.

What about the future excites you?

I am really excited to see where we can take MIMO over the next few years and what new things I will learn and be a part of along the way.

What’s your favourite song, and why?

The National Anthem – Because when I get to listen and sometimes sing badly the national anthem it usually means I am at or about to watch a sporting event watching England play.

If you were on an island, which three things would you want with you?

  • A companion

  • Music

  • A boat!
